Issue No. 02 - On Dog People

Some graphics work because they are loud. Dog graphics work for a quieter reason: they are specific.

A retriever is not just a retriever to the person buying the cap. It is the dog waiting by the door, the one who claimed the passenger seat, the one whose hair somehow still turns up on a black sweatshirt months later. The design already has a private history before it ever reaches the cart.

That is why dog people keep leading the Mellowby edit. The best pieces do not feel like costume merch. They feel like a small signal: warm, familiar, and easy enough to wear with denim, canvas, an old overshirt, or whatever gets pulled from the chair first.

We keep the styling soft for that reason. Less mascot energy. Less souvenir shop. More worn-in cotton, washed color, clean embroidery-style artwork, and a shape that belongs in the weekly rotation.

The catalogue will keep growing by breed, but the filter is simple: if the graphic does not feel like something a real person would reach for often, it does not belong here yet.
