Somewhere around 40, the omega-7 fatty acids in your skin's surface oils begin oxidizing into 2-nonenal — the aldehyde behind age-related body odor. It is oil-soluble, so it sits inside that film rather than on top of it. That single fact explains why more showers, hotter water and a stronger deodorant never reached it, and why fragrance only ever parks on top.

Persimmon tannin is a polyphenol, and polyphenols bind aldehydes. Kakishibu — the Japanese deodorizing tradition this bar is built on — grabs the nonenal molecule instead of washing past it. That is the whole difference between removing the smell and burying it.

Shea butter, glycerin and green tea are in the formula so that removing it does not cost you a comfortable skin barrier. Fragrance-free on purpose: a soap that smells strong gives you no way of knowing whether it removed anything.
